Understanding Global Supply Chain Issues

Delays, shortages, price increases. A video from the Wall Street Journal sheds some light on the causes of the supply chain issues that businesses and consumers have been experiencing with goods from overseas beginning in 2020 and continuing into 2021.

Container ship logjams, relying on increasingly bigger ships, and, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic have all contributed to the disruption of international shipping timelines and processes. By extension, the same forces affecting materials from overseas are also driving up lead times and costs for some domestic products.

When it comes to building products, the container issue explored in the video is having an impact on some plywood panels, boards, and millwork from overseas.

While Amerhart does import panel products and some specialty woods from Europe and Asia via cargo containers, we also offer a wide variety of options from North America. Our strength as a distributor comes from carrying a diversity of brands sourced from different locations so that we can provide the products you need in a timely fashion.
